The jury and the court of public opinion weighed in over the summer, but now, the high-profile trial will be dissected in the upcoming season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The trial is headed to the small-screen to serve as inspiration for an upcoming episode of the Mariska Hargitay-led drama. New set photos have emerged from what’s believed to be the filming of the episode in New York City as Hargitay’s character, Det. Olivia Benson, exits a courtroom escorting a character played by Julia Goldani Telles, per ET Canada. Supporters are seen gathered around the courthouse holding signs that read “I Stand With Austin” and “Team Austin,” largely in favor of the female character’s famous ex, though there are a few that show love to “Team Kelsey.” The scene mirrors the support from divided fans of “Team Amber” and “Team Johnny” as they stood outside of the courthouse in Fairfax, Virginia throughout the explosive six-week trail. While it’s unclear when the episode of the long-running crime show will air, Newsweek reports that the upcoming fall season will find Benson and her team fighting for justice in “cases ripped straight from the headlines." Depp and Heard’s televised trial—which began in late May and concluded on June 1— caused a media frenzy. The Pirates of the Caribbean star was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, which was later reduced to $350,000 under a Virginia law. Meanwhile, Heard was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages. Both have filed a motion to appeal the ruling. Law & Order: SVU Season 24 is set to premiere on September 22, 2022, on NBC.
