In a statement, Kensington Palace said, “Last week the Duchess of Cambridge came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for Covid-19. “Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.” It’s understood that Kate has been isolating since Friday, the same day that she stepped out for a day of tennis at Wimbledon. She has received both of her vaccination shots. Kate and Prince William were scheduled to attend two events today that paid tribute to the National Health Service: including a ceremony of thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral and afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace for NHS staff, hosted by the royal couple themselves. The Duke of Cambridge has already arrived solo at the cathedral for a service that will celebrate the NHS’s 73rd birthday. William found himself mired in controversy last year when it emerged months after the fact that he had contracted Covid in April 2020, around the same time his fatherPrince Charlestested positive for the illness. However, unlike Charles, William chose not to reveal that he had tested positive—possibly because of remarks he made during the Cambridges’ tour of Ireland in March 2020. The couple shook hands with people constantly for the duration of their three-day trip and at one point William joked, “By the way, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are spreading coronavirus, sorry. We’re keeping an eye on that, so do tell us if we need to stop.” He also asked an ambulance worker, “Does it seem quite dramatic about coronavirus at the moment? Is it being a little bit hyped up do you think in the media?” Next up, Last Week Saw the Return of Prince George—In a Suit and Tie, Cheering England On Alongside Duchess Kate and Prince William!
