Research confirms it. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of people with symptoms of anxiety and depression quadrupled in the past year compared to the previous year. Unfortunately, finding a therapist can be stressful between the insurance hassle and choosing one that’s a good fit. Thankfully, many retailers are providing counseling for those who need it. Here is a comprehensive list of all of the companies that will be offering mental health services

Retailers Offering Mental Health Services

CVS

Starting in January, CVS has added licensed clinical social workers specializing in cognitive behavioral therapy to select locations in Florida, Pennsylvania and Texas. Services offered include mental health assessments, referrals and counseling (which can be done in person or virtually). In terms of availability, social workers are available during the day, evenings and weekends. This is through MinuteClinics (covered by most major health insurance companies), which offers nonemergency health care services either via walk-in or by appointment. And if you need medication and prescriptions, the social workers also work with MinuteClinic’s nurse practitioners and pharmacists. Don’t have insurance? Prices range between $129 for an initial assessment to $69 for a 30-minute session, with other options available.

Walmart

Walmart recently acquired MeMD, a telehealth provider which offers both medical and mental health care. Through Walmart Health, you can receive counseling services with a licensed behavioral health practitioner in areas of anxiety, depression, stress, and more. Walmart Health provides in-person mental health counseling in Georgia and telehealth is available in Arkansas. In the upcoming months, mental health services will also be offered in Illinois and Florida. The first therapy session costs $60 and the 45-minute follow-up sessions are $45.

Walgreens

Thanks to Walgreens Find Care, you can meet with a certified therapist or counselor over the phone or video. Their services cover a wide range of mental health issues including depression, grief, anxiety and more. Prices vary depending on your insurance coverage. Walgreens also partnered with Mental Health America, where they provide online mental health screenings.

Albertsons

One of the largest food and drug retailers in the United States, Albertsons announced a rollout of Genomind’s test services to all ACME pharmacies in Pennsylvania in December 2020. Genomind’s test services include administering long-acting antipsychotic and recovery medications to help with substance abuse and addiction. This partnership and initiative has been developing for nearly 10 years. If you’re uninsured or your insurance doesn’t cover most of the treatment, the pharmacy will help connect you with a manufacturer rebate program or a nonprofit foundation that can help fund the treatment.

Rite Aid

Rite Aid will be starting teletherapy with “virtual care rooms” of select stores in Idaho, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Virginia, according to a company spokesman. The company didn’t specify when the program began or if there are expansion plans. Next, read 30 of the best mental health apps
