Now, the actress received her first TIME magazine cover, accompanying a feature written by Euphoria costar Maude Apatow. The TIME100 Next recognizes 100 rising stars from across industries and around the world. Sweeney shared the cover on Instagram, showing off the main picture in which she dons an Old Hollywood-style gown and gloves, posing as if she is emerging from the green velvet curtains of a stage. Apatow began her written piece for TIME by saying, “2022 is the year of Sydney Sweeney and I’ve had a front-row seat. I play Sydney’s sister Lexi on Euphoria and have gotten to watch her acting up close, literally two inches away from her face.” She then described a key emotional scene for Sweeney’s Euphoria character Cassie, and how “Sydney juggles all of those emotions in a fierce, comic ballet that only she could pull off.” Sweeney’s costar continued praising the 25-year-old’s talent: “I’ve never met anyone who works harder or who is more inventive. One moment she will make you cry tears of laughter and the next she will break your heart. Sydney is an unstoppable force.” In an accompanying video, which includes interviews with Sweeney while she shot the photos for TIME, the rising star shared why she wanted to act in the first place. She said, “When I was little, I always knew that I wanted to be an actress. I knew that I couldn’t sit back and just be one thing for the rest of my life, and I thought acting would allow me to be able to connect with as many people as possible.” Although she’s only 25, Sweeney also founded her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, in 2020, and it was reported by Deadline in Aug. 2022 that one of her first producing projects will be an adaptation of the book The Registration by Madison Lawson, which she will also star in.
