Today’s Wordle Answer #235: Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022
The Feb. 9, 2022 word puzzle shouldn’t have necessarily been too tricky depending on your Wordle starting word. Two (usually) failproof tactics for choosing a starting word in Wordle are to use a word with at least two vowels, or use what we call the “Wheel of Fortune” method and utilize words with the letters R, S, T, L, N, and E. Today, instead of using a word like “RATES” or “STARE,” we happened to opt for an M over an R, starting with “STEAM.” With only the M in play and in the wrong place, we pivoted to “MOURN,” which utilizes the ubiquitous R and N, as well as two vowels with “O” and “U.” It ended up being a smart move. We tested “RUMOR” next, knowing that often repeated letters can be a death knell (remember “KNOLL” from Wordle 219?!). This time, the tactic wasn’t necessary, but it was, indeed, effective — leading us to all but one letter of the day’s Wordle puzzle solved. What you choose next may depend on your mindset. Ironically, after using the dour “MOURN” previously, we opted to lighten things up with “HUMOR”—and chuckled gladly when we realized it was the right answer. “TUMOR” was a popular guess among other Wordle players, as it uses T, a common letter, so if your pals had scores of five or more (depending on their square colors and placements when they shared their score), you can guess that may have been one of their tries.
